Forgot Username or Password


Introduction

If you have forgotten your username or password, a method is provided to retrieve your username and change your current password.

Recover Username

If you have forgotten your username and would like to retrieve it:

  1. Select the Forgot Sign In button on the sign in page of PrepToolkit.
    An opening paragraph states, “For users without a PIV card, enter your username and password to sign-in. If you are not already registered, select Register below.” This text is followed by two blank fields: Username/E-mail and Password. Below these fields are three buttons: Sign In, Forgot Sign In, and Register. The Forgot Sign In button is highlighted.
  2. Provide the email address associated with your account.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. A confirmation message will appear, noting that an email has been sent to the email address you provided. Visit your email inbox and select the message from no-reply@preptoolkit.fema.dhs.gov. Note: If this email does not appear in your inbox, be sure to check your junk and/or spam folders.
  5. Navigate to the link provided in the email. It will route you to an area of PrepToolkit that displays your username. Note: This link will only be active for 60 minutes. If this window has passed, please begin again at step 1.

Reset Password

If you have forgotten the password for your account and need to reset it:

  1. Select the Forgot Sign In button on the sign in page of PrepToolkit.
    An opening paragraph states, “For users without a PIV card, enter your username and password to sign-in. If you are not already registered, select Register below.” This text is followed by two blank fields: Username/E-mail and Password. Below these fields are three buttons: Sign In, Forgot Sign In, and Register. The Forgot Sign In button is highlighted.
  2. Provide the email address associated with your account.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. A confirmation message will appear, noting that an email has been sent to the email address you provided. Visit your email inbox and select the message from no-reply@preptoolkit.fema.dhs.gov. Note: If this email does not appear in your inbox, be sure to check your junk and/or spam folders.
  5. Navigate to the link provided in the email. It will route you to an area of PrepToolkit where you may change your password. Note: This link will only be active for 60 minutes. If this window has passed, please begin again at step 1.
  6. Provide your new password, ensuring it meets password requirements.
    A Reset Password screen is shown. Below the Reset Password heading is the text “Password Help.” Near this text are the following instructions: “New Password: must be 15 characters or more; must contain a mixture of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters; must not match your name or username; just not contain dictionary words; must differ from the previous password by a minimum of 4 characters; must not match your last 10 passwords; must be changed every 60 days or less; must not be changed more than once in a 24 hour period.” This text is followed by two blank fields. The first does not have a readily apparent label other than the opening text prefaced with “New Password.” The second field is labeled “Confirm New Password.” Below these fields are two buttons: Reset Password and Cancel.
  7. Select Reset Password.
  8. A confirmation will display. Provide your username, new password, and select Sign In to log into PrepToolkit.
