Dashboard


Introduction

The Dashboard within an exercise provides a condensed view of all MSEL events and their statuses. Multiple displays are included, such as event displays by date, Exercise Objective, and Principals' Strategic Priorities. It includes features to allow you to filter the display by status, objective, planned release time, and other criteria.

The Dashboard is accessed within the MSEL area of an Exercise site.

Permissions: Site members who are assigned to one of the following roles can see the Dashboard.

  • HSEEP Exercises: Controller, Manager, Moderator, MSEL Author, MSEL Manager, and Trusted Agent
  • REP Exercises: Controller, Manager, MSEL Author, MSEL Manager, and Trusted Agent

Dashboard Displays

Overview Display

The Overview display appears by default after navigating to the Dashboard. It provides a high-level view of the total number of MSEL events broken down by status.

Four tabs are displayed across the top of the screen: Overview, By Date, By Exercise Objective, and By Principals’ Strategic Priorities. The Overview tab is selected. A label of "55 Event(s)" is displayed inside a donut chart depicting five categories. The cursor is hovering over one of these categories and the following label is displayed: Released 28 Event(s).

By Date Display

View the Date display by selecting the By Date tab on the Dashboard. The Date display organizes MSEL events by conduct dates and times. This display keys off the Planned Release date and time assigned to an event. If this field is not populated in an event, the event will not be included in the Date display in the Dashboard.

If your time zone differs from the time zone set for the overall MSEL, you may change the Display Time Zone.

Four tabs are displayed across the top of the screen: Overview, By Date, By Exercise Objective, and By Principals’ Strategic Priorities. The By Date tab is selected. A Display Time Zone field is set to Easter Time - New York. A Day 1 (09/23/2019 EST) block shows 55 events. A down arrow icon is displayed below this text on the Day 1 block.

The events assigned to each day of conduct can be displayed by selecting the arrow link beneath the appropriate day. Once the day's details are displayed, MSEL event details can be viewed and/or edited by users with appropriate permissions by selecting the link on the top right hand corner of the MSEL event's display box.

A Day 1 (09/23/2019 EST) block shows 55 Event(s). An up arrow icon is displayed below this text on the Day 1 block. This arrow is highlighted and a notation states, “Expand/Collapse Day’s Details.” The following text is shown in a small box below this arrow: 0.1: 72-h Forecast, Mon 09/23/2019 04:20 PM EST. An edit icon is shown in the top right corner of this small box. The edit icon is highlighted and a notation states, “Edit/View Event Details.”

By Exercise Objective Display

View the Exercise Objective display by selecting the By Exercise Objectve tab on the Dashboard. The Exercise Objective display organizes MSEL events by Exercise Objectives. This display keys off the Exercise Objectives selected for each MSEL event. If no Exercise Objectives are selected for an event, the event will not be included in the Exercise Objectives display in the Dashboard.

By Principals' Objective Display

View the Principals' Strategic Priorities display by selecting the By Principals' Strategic Priorities tab on the Dashboard. The display organizes MSEL events by Principals' Strategic Priorities. This display keys off the Principals' Strategic Priorities selected for each MSEL event. If no Principals' Strategic Priorities are selected for an event, the event will not be included in this display in the Dashboard.

Four tabs are displayed across the top of the screen: Overview, By Date, By Exercise Objective, and By Principals’ Strategic Proirities. The By Principals’ Strategic Priorities tab is selected. A donut chart is shown. The heading states "PSP 6: Community Recovery and Economic Resilience." and has 1 event(s) in 1 category.

The events assigned to each Principals' Strategic Priority can be displayed by selecting the arrow link beneath the appropriate Principals' Strategic Priority. Once the details are displayed, MSEL event details can be viewed and/or edited by users with appropriate permissions by selecting the link on the top right hand corner of the MSEL event's display box.

Dashboard Tools

The Dashboard includes three tools in the gray toolbar that will assist you across all Dashboard displays: the Refresh button, the Legend, and the Filter.

The Refresh button appears onscreen along with a "Dashboard updated..." message if changes have been made to the MSEL. Select the Refresh button to load the latest changes in your Dashboard display.

A heading states, “Events Dashboard.” Beside this heading is a notice that says, “Dashboard updated….” A Refresh button is shown to the right of this notice.

The Legend provides you with the meanings of the colors used throughout the Dashboard displays.

Two buttons are shown: Legend and Filter. The Legend button is selected, revealing a dropdown list. In this list are nine values: Draft, Submitted, Approved, Obsolete, Synchronized, Released, Complete, Deferred, and Locked. Each value is associated with a color. White is assigned to Draft. Blue is assigned to Submitted. Purple is assigned to Approved. Dark gray is assigned to Obsolete. Orange is assigned to Synchronized. Yellow is assigned to Released. Green is assigned to Complete. Light gray is assigned to Deferred. Red is assigned to Locked.

The Filter allows you to filter out inapplicable information from the display so you can more easily focus on information of interest to you. Selecting the Filter button at the top of the Dashboard leads you to a pop-up window with a number of settings.

Two buttons are shown: Legend and Filter. The Filter button is selected. An arrow indicates that selecting the Filter button will display an Event Filter window. Two main sections are displayed at the top of the window: Keyword and Status. The Keyword section consists of a blank text field. Within the Status area, all statuses are listed: Draft, Submitted, Approved, Synchronized, etc. Arrow buttons indicate that these statuses can be selected and added or removed from a Selected status list. Below these two sections are five collapsible sections with the following headings: Event Number, Planned Release, Type, Controller / From / To / CC, and Objectives. All of these sections are collapsed. Clear Filter, OK, and Cancel buttons are displayed at the bottom of the window.

  1. Keyword: Search for whole or partial numbers and words across the Event Number, Description, To, From, and Implementer Message fields
  2. Status: Choose statuses in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that are in your selected statuses. If the Selected field is empty, all statuses will be included in the Dashboard display. Choose statuses in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.
  3. Event Number: Filter the display to a specific event number range. (Sorting the MSEL's Event Number column in ascending order will reveal the events that fall within a specific event number range.)
    A heading states, "Event Number." Below this heading are two text fields labeled "Start Event Number" and "End Event Number," respectively.
  4. Planned Release: Filter the display to a specific planned release date/time range. Specify the time zone for your filter if it differs from the default time zone of the MSEL.
    A heading states, "Planned Release." Below this heading are two text fields labeled "Start Date/Time and End Date/Time, respectively. Below these text fields is a drop-down field labeled "Time Zone." The field is populated with the following value: Easter Time - New York, New York.
  5. Type:
    A heading states, "Type." Below this heading are two main sections: Category and Inject Mode. Within the Category area, all categories are listed: Other, Contingency Inject, Expected Action, and Inject. Arrow buttons indicate that these categories can be selected and added or removed from a Selected category list. Within the Inject Mode area, all inject modes are listed: Fax, In Person, Media, Social Media, etc. Arrow buttons indicate that these inject modes can be selected and added or removed from a Selected list. Below these two main sections is an unchecked checkbox with the label “Use Key Event Status.” A toggle is shown beside the checkbox label; the No Key option is selected.
    • Category: Choose categories in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that match your selected categories. If the Selected field is empty, all categories will be included in the Dashboard display. Choose categories in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.
    • Inject Mode: Choose inject modes in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that match your selected inject modes. If the Selected field is empty, all inject modes will be included in the Dashboard display. Choose inject modes in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.
    • Key Event Status: There are two settings available to filter the Dashboard based on key event status. To use either of these settings, first selec the Use Key Event Status checkbox.

      • (a) Non-Key Events: If the Use Key Event Status checkbox is checked and the accompanying toggle switch displays the "no key" icon, the Dashboard will only include non-key events in its display.
      • (b) Key Events: If the Use Key Event Status checkbox is checked and the accompanying toggle switch displays the "key" icon, the Dashboard will only include key events in its display.
  6. Controller / From / To / CC:
    A heading states, "Controller / From / To / CC." Below this heading is a main section titled "Assigned Controller." Within the Assigned Controller section, All controllers are listed: Jane Doe and John Smith. Arrow buttons indicate that these controllers can be selected and added or removed from a Selected controller list. Below this Assigned Controller section are three search text fields. These fields are labeled From, To, and CC, respectively. Each of these fields has a search icon button to the left of the search text field. The fields are populated with a placeholder of "Search."
    • Assigned Controller: Any site members assigned the Controller role will appear in the All field. Choose Controllers in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that are assigned to the chosen Controller. If the Selected field is empty, all events will be included in the Dashboard display, regardless of their assigned Controller. Choose Controllers in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.
    • From: Search for and select any entity in the exercise's Phonebook. This will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events with the chosen Phonebook entity in the From field.
    • To: Search for and select any entity in the exercise's Phonebook. This will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events with the chosen Phonebook entity in the To field.
    • CC: Search for and select any entity in the exercise's Phonebook. This will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events with the chosen Phonebook entity in the CC field.
  7. Objectives:
    A heading states, "Objectives." Below this heading are two main section titled "Principals' Strategic Priorities" and "Exercise Objectives," respectively. Within the Principals' Strategic Priorities section, All priorities are listed. These priorities are cut off by the edge of the box encasing them, but the priorities shown are as follows: "PSP 6: Community..." and "PSP 8: Continuity." Arrow buttons indicate that these priorities can be selected and added or removed from a Selected priorities list. Within the Exercise Objectives section, all objectives are listed: EO2 and EO1. Arrow buttons indicate that these objectives can be selected and added or removed from a Selected objectives list.
    • Principals' Strategic Priorities: Choose any of the exercise's Principals' Strategic Priorities in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that match your selected Principals' Strategic Priorities. If the Selected field is empty, all events will be included in the Dashboard display, regardless of their assigned Principals' Strategic Priorities. Choose Principals' Strategic Priorities in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.
    • Exercise Objectives: Choose any of the exercise objectives in the All field and select the right arrow to add them to the Selected field; this will filter the Dashboard display so it only includes events that match your selected exercise objectives. If the Selected field is empty, all events will be included in the Dashboard display, regardless of their assigned exercise objectives. Choose exercise objectives in the Selected field and select the left arrow to remove them from the Selected field.

Select OK to apply your customized filter. Alternatively, you may select Cancel to return to the Dashboard display without applying your new filter. You may select Clear Filter to remove all filter criteria.
